Well, it has been a rough week at the Howell household to say the least. Let me preface this by saying, I know I am blessed and I know my lot is not anywhere near some people's this week(and I really realize that). But the beauty of this situation.....MY blog=my opportunity to vent :)
Emma was in hog heaven(literally but didn't realize where that "hog"part would lead later) playing with her sweet friend Kingsley.
We then got to go to the Farmer's Market to look at pumpkins and eat lunch with Honey/Pops.
The shakedown-
Clue 1- Emma didn't want to eat at all-which really isn't a super new thing, but then wanted to lay down on the restaurant chair during lunch. One thing I can say about Emma is that she is rarely still.
Clue 2- FEVER- not even that high but that afternoon it was about 101.
Clue 3-The big one Sunday morning about 2:30am I woke up to check on her and she had close to 105 fever. I will have to say that was scary for me. I have been blessed with two girls that can get a mean stomach bug and a cold, but really we just don't get fever around here. I can honestly say that neither of my girls have had fever that high.
We decided to pay the extra $25 dollars and go get a flu/strep test on Sunday at our doctor's office. In the back of my head I knew that if she did have the flu we had to catch it within 48 hours to get Tamiflu, but I honestly thought Emma would just have some sort of fever virus. Well, guess what....Full fledged Type A flu - otherwise known as Swine Flu, H1N1...You have got to be kidding me!! AHHHHHH
I tried not to panic and then took my prescription to CVS drive thru-to quickly realize that they were out. I have to say that the CVS man had this little laugh when he looked at my prescription and then said "Ma'am we don't' have this and have been out of this for a while. I don't know where you are going to find this" Well thank you very much trusty PHARMACIST-Hello could you give me a clue. Really nothing to do with him, but such an easy target.
After 3 additional pharmacies we finally found it. Grace was my sidekick in all of these jaunts while Daddy had baby piggy at home. Grace had actually gone with my mom to see Charlotte's Web that day, gone to church with daddy(this is all before the test came back-don't stone me)-so we had done a great job of exposing as many people as possible before GRACE STARTED RUNNING FEVER. OH no two piggy flu children.
Sunday night my Knight and Shining Armor came to my rescue and said "Babe I will stay home and help you. The girls both want you 24/7 and there is not an easy way to do both" I love this man for so many reasons( I will tell you more of the reasons at another time), but he is such an awesome dad and hubby. His girls adore him and even though it was not a fun day it was so much better with him here. We scrubbed this house from top to bottom.
We also had a pedicure party. I have to be honest that intermingled in those fun, precious moments were fighting sister who have had way to much quality time, impatient mommy who was truly needing some renewal in spirit and patience, and our walls began to close in on us.
All that to say....Swine Flu hasn't been fun, but it has reminded me yet again that I am in imperfect person in need of a Savior. Nothing will show your sin nature, like a little swine flu and lots of time trapped in your house with your two adorable, energetic, grumpy, and sick girls.
My sweet friend Kim-told me about this woman asking what it practically looked like to meditate on God's word and God himself. The speaker then said-Do you know how to worry? Of course the woman said yes. She then said If you know how to worry than you know how to meditate it is just changing what you are focused on.
I have played that over and over in my head this week as I worried for my sweet kids and my other friends who either are sick themselves or have family that is sick. I am choosing to try to find more opportunities to meditate on His word instead of what the world throws at me.....even the swine flu.

Erin,
I love it...you are such a good writer! I am so sorry that you the swine flu has attacked your family!!!! Yuck!!!
But what I love about you is that you always find the positive in the situation and you are always thinking of others(like my mom). For that, I thank you and cherish our friendship!
Hope the week gets better!!!
